Never caught any shows in 95. Last shows I saw was Seattle/Eugene 94. I kind of thought about this in a round about way the other day. If Jerry would have survived, I believe the music would have evolved into something really great. But Jerry would have had to get "better" and could he? If he had it would be a better day. Damn skippy

Side projects would have still worked well, with some touring and what not. But had the Grateful Dead survived, and in a really cool world, gotten Bob Seger to take over the keys, we would be talking at shows as well as this forum.

So yeah, It was sounding a little rough the final years. But had they pulled through it, who knows?

Bob Seger on keys? Now there's a thought. Certainly would have filled the vocal void.

Wow. never would have thought of that. Didn't know Seger was even tuned on the piano. Vocally it's a great call. heard rumors he had throat issues, possibly cancer for some time which is why he fell out of the limelight for what seemed like forever. As for the folks who think talking about 95 in a negative light is bad voodoo, I highly recommend the Scarlet> Fire from the Seattle show. Great in any year.

True, but discussion of the band should entail both the good and bad, IMHO anyway.

And, sorry Rob, but speaking of demise and heroin, this seems apt:

I caught you knockin'
at my cellar door
I love you, baby,
can I have some more
Ooh, ooh, the damage done.

I hit the city and
I lost my band
I watched the needle
take another man
Gone, gone, the damage done.

I sing the song
because I love the man
I know that some
of you don't understand
Milk-blood
to keep from running out.

I've seen the needle
and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie's
like a settin' sun
